New Orleans Flooded as Levees Break

The initial impact of Hurricane Katrina wasn't as cataclysmic as the hype had predicted. But in the aftermath, the levees and dykes protecting New Orleans have broken under pressure from the sea's storm-surges, flooding 80% of the city. A terrible disaster has occurred in this place of beauty and grace.

New Orleans is the blog's favourite American city, and we pray for all the victims, and hope the looting doesn't get out of hand.
